In the 12th the Benedictine monks of Saint Justina in Padua acquired a vast territory between Venice and Chioggia that was almost completely underwater and uninhabited. After reclamation, over the following centuries they constructed a series of buildings called “courts”, the most famous of which is at Correzzola (Padua).
