Sociological investigation of the suburbs of Rome that analyzes housing (density per room, etc), sources of income (work), school and the relationship with the historical city center. We end up with a picture of the suburbs as a “waiting room” (which can last an entire lifetime) for immigrants. The capital is a cluster of islands where segregationist urban planning has prevailed; the man from the ghetto is alienated, unable to establish a connection between what he does and the larger society surrounding him. In this way the relationship between the city center and the rest of the city is similar to the one between developed economic areas and underdeveloped ones.
